The Castros Culture

Great historians, as Plinio or Strabón, locate the origin of Monforte between the years 900- 600 B.C.

They say that the Lemavos lived in this place. It’s possible that they had a celtic origin, according to several authors, and they fixed their capital in the ancient Castro Dactonio, germ of the present city. Most of historians locate the mentioned "castro" at the Monte of San Vicente.
